When to Resod, Patch, or Fix Something Else First
Most of the lawn gone or overrun → full resod. Isolated dead zones → patching. Small bare spots → plugs. Grass keeps dying in the same places → it's usually water; new sod over a broken irrigation zone just dies again, so we fix irrigation first.

Navarre’s winters are mild, and we install sod year-round. But “we can” is not the same as “it’s best,” and for sod installation in Navarre, the best window is the one that is open right now.
Warm-season grasses like St. Augustine, Zoysia, Bahia, and Bermuda put down roots fastest in warm soil. As fall cools, soil temperature drops, and growth slows. Sod laid early in the season gets more warm days to root into our sandy ground before the first frost pushes the lawn into dormancy. Sod laid in the middle of winter will still root, but slowly, and it spends the coldest weeks looking thin and tired.

Days 1–14: water heavily and often — typically twice a day; missing a day early can set you back for good.
Weeks 3–4: taper to once a day, then every other day.
After establishment: deeper, less frequent watering for drought-resilient roots. If coverage is spotty, fix it first.
Sod Installation Timeline: From Estimate to First Mow
- Free walkthrough and measurement. Eric walks the yard, checks sun, shade, salt exposure, and drainage, and measures the square footage.
- Written quote. Pallet count, variety, old-turf removal, grading and access are all itemized. The quote is honored as written.
- Scheduling
- Install day. Old turf and weeds come out, the base is graded and amended, and sod goes down in tight, staggered seams.
- Days 1 to 14. Heavy watering, twice a day, and no foot traffic.
- Weeks 2 to 3. Once the sod has rooted, the first mow.
- Weeks 3 to 4. Taper watering to once a day, then every other day.
